[video meant for Shaun... but let's face it, Jack's hardly a tech wiz, anyone could see it]

[It's late, and Jack knows it, but he'd made a promise, and he was going to keep it. At least, as well as he could without letting Sho wander out of sight, anyway. He's just hoping Shaun is still awake to pick up.]

Hey, Shaun? I said I'd tell you before I left town, right? I'm kinda cutting it close, so I hope you get this soon.

Anyone know if there are maps for places off the Routes?

Next time I have to go running off into the wilderness after someone, I'll try that way.

Well it was bigger than me- [He uses his free hand to estimate the size of the ball, well above his spiked hair.] -and I'm almost six feet tall.

[To Jack's second question, Larry shrugs.] Not really. I just bumped into them along the way. Sometimes there's road signs that lead you off the beaten path. It's those moments like on road trips when someone in the car goes, [He musters up the most fake excited voice he can.] "Ooh! I GOTTA see the historic corn museum!"

I'm afraid I don't know of any area-specific maps, though I have considered sketching one or two myself - Or asking an art-savvy friend of mine to help.

What sort of area are you exploring?

[Fire is always dangerous. As a winter spirit, Jack isn't a fan.]

Pretty much what I thought. But he's upset now, and if I let him run off all upset and something happens, then I'd be a pretty bad friend, right?

[Okay, so they aren't technically friends, but Jack knows the guy's name and did sort of witness the most awkward headbutt in history, so he feels obligated. Just a little.]

I've never been on a roadtrip, so I wouldn't know.

Somewhere west of Violet City. At least, that's where we started. I don't know where we'll end up.

Sort of. Trying to keep a friend of mine out of trouble, and it looks like that's going to mean some exploring, yep.

Are you lost somewhere? It's easy to get turned around sometimes.

We're heading that way.

I'm not used to figuring out where I'm going on the ground, and I don't think he's thinking about that yet.

Hopefully he listens to reason before it gets too hard to just turn around.

It also has the advantage of being quite pleasant and offering an excellent view, unless you happen to be scared of heights. It's quite worth raising your Pokémon to the necessary level.

[ he doesn't even really blink at that. ] Are you looking for a place to stay, then?

If you need a hand, I can always fly over on my Pidgeot to see if I can find you.

Maybe we'll get lucky and stumble back on the Route and his friend will magically be waiting. What're my odds, do you think?

Although he's going to be totally disappointed when he finds out that even once Dingle evolves into a Gyarados, he's not one of the flying types that can actually fly.]

More like a path through. It's... weirdly complicated.

The camping out isn't the part I mind. It's the hiking.

The response doesn't come immediately, and when the feed does click on, it's to a Jack who looks significantly less amused by the whole situation than he did originally. He's tired and that's just not right.]

I don't really know this friend of yours, so I guess I couldn't really say. What do you think your odds are?

[Shaun thinks about it for a moment, and then his shoulders slump a little reluctantly.]

Oh- I'm afraid I haven't visited the Violet City area yet.

But... is it possible you have a compass?

[Long shot, but for all she knows this gear has that feature on it.]

The only problem is finding enough fliers if you move as a group, but luckily the HM itself can be shared as often as you like.

[Which doesn't help much those who find out that their Gyarados or Butterfree can't use it, but.]

'Course I will. You can't get rid of me that easily.

Trust me. People have tried.
