Video 5: Now with Bonus Swablu Hat! (Action for Traveling Party or Azalea)

[For once, the feed clicks on and Jack looks, not happy or excited or even amused, but vaguely confused and unimpressed.

A large part of that may have to do with the Swablu cooing and preening his hair. It's wrapped itself over the top of his head like a hat, and while it looks a bit worn out like it's just reached the end of far too much traveling, it also looks supremely pleased with itself.]

So, uh... Akito? I think this is your fault?

[He tries to look up at the Swablu only for it to coo even more loudly and hunker down on top of his head, as if it knows he's thinking about trying to pry it off. He sighs, but it's offset by a tiny smile.]

I think I need some advice. Don't get me wrong, okay. It's cute. Like really cute. But...

It won't move. It hasn't moved, and it's been like an hour since it came out of nowhere and landed on me. It won't even go into a pokeball. Here, watch.

[He pulls out a pokeball, and the Swablu gets pulled in at first, but soon enough, the ball pops back open as if he'd tried and failed to catch a wild pokemon. The bird flutters straight back to his head, cooing an admonishment this time.]

So yeah. Advice.

[Zodiac hums in approval of her work, but points out that if the parts are arranged in layers, they will stay looking neat longer since humans seem bent on walking into the first available breeze and ruining their grooming. Here, let him show you...

Belphe watches the two blue birds fuss over Jack's snowy mane, unable to stop herself from cracking a grin. Poor boy...]

When it comes to hair, they're relentless.

[She goes back to preening, both herself and Jack. Who can tell if it's an answer or not?]

[She coos some more, eventually joining in after watching for a bit once she's sure she has the technique down. She's also got the best big brother to teach her things!

Jack just rolls his eyes. He can't quite turn well enough to do it in Belphe's direction properly, but after a few weeks here, he's sure she knows the intent is there.]

I might have noticed, thanks.

[Well, what else are friends for, really, than to be there when you're too embarrassed to see anyone else? This is a life-long friendship in the making, truly.

All the sounds from the gear make the Swablu start and flutter, almost flying away from Jack's head... only to resettle back the way she had been to watch the screen again. Jack sighs. So close.]

I'm not sure how much of me'd be left if you did. Think food is probably safer to try first.

[Yeah, yeah, laugh. Everyone else is. At least he can be pretty sure Talim doesn't mean it badly. He can't help grinning a little in return.]

You noticed, huh? And here, I thought she was so inconspicuous.

[Of course he is. Oh well. He's not the only one.]

So helpful. Thanks. [He's rolling his eyes and grinning when he says it, though.] If she was just a hat, it wouldn't be so bad, but she...

[The Swablu has taken to ignoring the screen since the cat incident earlier, and is now preening his hair again. She.... she seems to be braiding that part, actually.]

...keeps doing that.

Not quite, but if you try hard enough, you might be able to pass her off as a hat.

Have you tried giving her something else to cuddle? Like a soft blanket or a stuffed toy?

[The Swablu coos a reproach. She is SO not a hat, thank you very much. She resettles her wings, grooming one section of Jack's hair sulkily.]

I... [He tries to look up at the bird, but once again, she just shifts her weight whenever his head moves, making it impossible. Sigh.] No, i didn't think of that. Phil's pretty good with that stuff. I wonder if she'd sit on him for a while.

[ annnd he can't help but let out a bit of a relieved sigh. ]

If you're near Azalea Town I could meet you instead of you travelling to the Centre. [ the Pokémon Centre may or may not also be littered with as many Slowpokes as the rest of the town, which gets a bit annoying after a few hours. ]

Think she'll be able to carry you, when she's bigger.

[He offered with a tilt of his head]

Flight, like Bell's dragon-thing.

... HM.

You sure you don't wanna just keep it up there?

You're lookin' mighty stylish.

Offers still open if that doesn't work out for you. I mean, they'd probably leave you in one piece.

[After all, humans are sources of food and pettings. That's why they make friends, so the cats don't have to deal with silly things like keeping them company. And the cats seem to be doing their best to be lovable by edging over to Niou and purring, rubbing up against his arms, and generally looking adorable. They're not stupid; if they get lent out, they're one step closer to that delicious morsel of a Swablu.

Niou observes his pokemon's attempts at buttering up his new acquaintance with an air of resigned amusement. At least this is better than being a launch pad.]

I'm Niou. For when the food doesn't work.

Oh, messing with your hair? That is serious.

[He laughs. Pokemon playing hair stylists are much funnier when they're not trying to do it to him. And after the time he's had lately, he could use the laugh.]

You'll have to find a way to get her to quit it before she starts trying to weave in ribbons.

Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply you were a hat. [ yes, she's talking to the pokémon. She tends to treat them like people. ]

Is Phil a friend of yours?

Just wait until they start in on your clothes...

[by that she means that they'll pick at the lint for hours, but it has more impact to leave it open to imagination]

[Somehow, he was getting so used to only talking to his friends over the gear that he forgot they had to exist somewhere here, too.]

Yeah. We've actually been in Azalea since the... you know, stuff, earlier.

[He only has the one set that he likes! ...Actually, it's kind of surprising Sho hasn't tried to burn anything of his yet.]

Yeah, but she's sitting on my head.

[He'd seen their disregard for anything in their way already. They couldn't fool him. Besides, he's already pulled every move in the book on the yeti to get into North's Workshop. They'd be better off comparing notes with him.

Maybe Niou shouldn't want to loan his cats out so quickly.]

[She resettles her wings and coos approvingly. Obviously, Sho is a man of taste. She likes him already.]

[Well, they're certainly far smarter than normal animals, and some tend to treat them like people, too, so it only stands to reason. Jack's practically just as bad with some of his, anyway.

She trills her forgiveness, actually disappearing from Jack's head for a few seconds... only to return with a small flower which she proceeds to braid into his hair.

He just sighs, but it's almost fond.]

Yeah, Phil was my starter. He's about as calm as you can get. Or lazy. Kind of both.

[Jack could probably arrange for a visit, next time they're in the same city, if Envy really wanted.]

...Don't even joke about that.

[He would drop his head into his hands if he didn't think it might make her fall off. While he wanted her to find someplace else to sit, he didn't want her to possibly get hurt in the process.]
