justanexpression | Video 2: Being Human (Action for Cherrygrove City)

[Obviously, someone has been practicing. When the feed kicks on, it's a properly framed picture of one Jack Frost. He's set up camp in the woods fringing Cherrygrove City with a good view of the beach and a frolicking Seel in the background behind him. He also looks more cheerful and less confused than last time.

Oh, and the egg in his lap. That's new, too.]

So, everyone was awesome about answering my questions last time, now I've got more of them.

Cherrygrove is nice. Been here a couple days, now. [He gestures over his shoulder.] You can tell Phil likes it. Kind of got lost on the way here, yeah, yeah, I know it's a straight line, okay, and Phil is about as slow as slow can be, but now that I'm here, I've got this guy. [He pokes at the egg. It's blue and white and people in the know might recognize it as a Pachirisu egg. Jack is not in the know.] Or girl. How do you tell?

For that matter, what do I do with it? Am I supposed to keep it warm? Someone mentioned a deal for new people just showing up, and that's totally me, so I, uh... just kind of hit buttons until I saw something that sounded good, but now I'm thinking that wasn't the best idea?

[He takes a second to glance over his shoulder, probably to make sure his Seel hadn't been eaten by a shark in the last few minutes or anything. If nothing else, this place seems to be teaching him a really strange sense of responsibility. If only Bunny could see him now.

He resettles, placing the gear on the ground in front of him so it can pick up a full body shot, including the sneakers he wasn't wearing before.]

Okay, second question, and... I know how crazy this sounds, but at least some of you weren't human before getting here, right? Pretty sure I've met one already. [Again, unless Thor's parents had some ridiculous delusions of grandeur.] So the question is- how do you stand it? Not the being here, that's turning out pretty cool, but the rest of it. All the getting hungry, and tired, and walking everywhere, not to mention buying stuff. Am I gonna have to get a- [shudder] -job?

[Man, she will bust out the elf costume and the felt reindeer antlers in the middle of summer, you don't even know. IT'S CHRISTMAS SOMEWHERE.]

I didn't know there were guardians of anything. So you...go around making it snow and doing stuff...just so that kids can have fun? That's your job?

[Dude, she steals things for a living and even she will concede that is a pretty sweet job.]

Basically. There's more than just me. Someone has to take care of the kids until they're old enough to do it themselves.

[And, well, let's face it. Most of what Jack did was so Jack could have fun, but since his fun often involved kids having fun, it all worked out. And yes, it is a pretty sweet job.]

That's pretty cool. [A beat.] Like ice cool.

[HURR.]

So you help people, really.

[Jack rolls his eyes. Yes, the ice jokes. He's never heard those before.]

I try to. Maybe I don't bring presents, but everyone's got different strengths.

Are you the guy who makes it snow on Christmas?

I can make it snow anytime. But yeah, sometimes Christmas.

[Weather conditions willing, anyway. Some things, even he couldn't overcome. Like deserts.]

[There's a kind of odd pause here, and then a positively childish smile creeps across her face — precisely the kind you might expect out of, say, a kid on Christmas.]

[You don't understand, Jack, there was once a Christmas where it almost didn't snow and then it did. LIKE MAGIC. Or you, apparently.]

Yeah, and I've been here a whole year. I'm still not used to it.

Good. Let's keep it that way. Though I do wonder...how bird-types fly over, yet we can't climb.

You're supposed to make a nest for your egg and put it someplace safe. It takes awhile to hatch. Like about a week or so.

Maybe the power or whatever it is only extends a certain distance. Wonder if you could find out how far it goes...

I can't wait until it hatches! It's such an amazing thing to watch!

[Eggs. Laguna sort has learned a lot about eggs, after that time he took care of 12 eggs at the same time. He can't really answer non-human questions, but...]
Well, there are certain Pokemon who can warm eggs faster - but, really, nothing seems to break them. So you can't do any wrong with them.
They usually hatch in a week or two, as well.
[...]
I can't really tell what gender eggs turn out, either - so, what I'd do is just pick out names which'd suit if they were a boy or girl.
[But he managed to mistake a female Wooper for a male one. Hm... anything else? Laguna thinks for a few moments, before...]
Watch out when they hatch - they might wanna try out their powers. And if there's nothing else around, you might end up the scratching post of a frisky baby.

Perhaps...Perhaps it will remain a mystery same as the music that's always in the air.

So there's really no escaping that, huh? Just... always music?

I'm afraid not. Luckily, it changes from place to place.

That's what people say. [sigh] Not that we have much choice, it looks like, huh?

I guess you could always get a flying type...

[He snorts.] You'd think. But hell, we don't even know if there's a 'they' at all. It just feels like there is sometimes.

So what were you before?

[He does sound actually curious; two and a half years isn't long enough for him to have stopped being kind of fascinated by so many other kinds of nonhumans.]

Jack. [If she hadn't already guessed. But she probably didn't, because no one ever recognizes his name, siiiiiiiiiiiigh.

He looks down at the egg still in his lap.]

Does that mean I have to stick around here? I mean, it's nice and all, but I've already been here for a couple days, and sitting around gets old.
