Video 2: Being Human (Action for Cherrygrove City)

[Obviously, someone has been practicing. When the feed kicks on, it's a properly framed picture of one Jack Frost. He's set up camp in the woods fringing Cherrygrove City with a good view of the beach and a frolicking Seel in the background behind him. He also looks more cheerful and less confused than last time.

Oh, and the egg in his lap. That's new, too.]

So, everyone was awesome about answering my questions last time, now I've got more of them.

Cherrygrove is nice. Been here a couple days, now. [He gestures over his shoulder.] You can tell Phil likes it. Kind of got lost on the way here, yeah, yeah, I know it's a straight line, okay, and Phil is about as slow as slow can be, but now that I'm here, I've got this guy. [He pokes at the egg. It's blue and white and people in the know might recognize it as a Pachirisu egg. Jack is not in the know.] Or girl. How do you tell?

For that matter, what do I do with it? Am I supposed to keep it warm? Someone mentioned a deal for new people just showing up, and that's totally me, so I, uh... just kind of hit buttons until I saw something that sounded good, but now I'm thinking that wasn't the best idea?

[He takes a second to glance over his shoulder, probably to make sure his Seel hadn't been eaten by a shark in the last few minutes or anything. If nothing else, this place seems to be teaching him a really strange sense of responsibility. If only Bunny could see him now.

He resettles, placing the gear on the ground in front of him so it can pick up a full body shot, including the sneakers he wasn't wearing before.]

Okay, second question, and... I know how crazy this sounds, but at least some of you weren't human before getting here, right? Pretty sure I've met one already. [Again, unless Thor's parents had some ridiculous delusions of grandeur.] So the question is- how do you stand it? Not the being here, that's turning out pretty cool, but the rest of it. All the getting hungry, and tired, and walking everywhere, not to mention buying stuff. Am I gonna have to get a- [shudder] -job?

There are a lot of equations regarding snow and ice!

Snow is actually very, very complex. There is no single equation to define it, instead there are many constants that work together to grow the individual six-sided symmetrical form that is the snowflake.

[Then he starts babbling the stuff at the bottom of this.]

[Aaaaaaaand he's back to zoning out. He snaps back after thirty seconds or so of equationing.]

Whoa, whoa. Hold up. That's really all just snow?

[It seems a lot easier than that when he's just making the stuff.]

Yes! It is actually still understood imperfectly, a zetta amazing natural function. Scientists, mathematicians, and physicists are studying snow and have been for centuries without unlocking all of it's mysteries!

[Well, color Jack impressed. Eggs probably aren't that complicated, huh? He's not going to ask, cause he doesn't want to know. All he knows, is that snow is awesome.

That actually brightens his opinion of Sho's math...ness quite a bit.]

Yeah? Not that I know what all those words mean, but I'm guessing it's cool. Cause there's practically a million kinds of snow, you know. I just didn't know humans cared about it so much. Not adults, anyway. They're usually too busy to notice.

[Oh look, they can be excitable together.]

More like trillions! While statistically there may be duplicates of snowflakes, on a practical level there will virtually never be a match if you were to stand out in a snowfall with a magnifying glass for hours!

With some simple to collect tools you can make ice crystals grow in a bottle, did you know that? They will not fall like snowflakes, but they mimic the same growth patterns!

[The trick to dealing with Sho, as Jack has stumbled upon, is to direct his maths at something you care about.]

[And if Jack cares about anything, it's snow and ice. Well, and kids, but trying for math about them could get a little strange.

For now, he just laughs.]

Why would I need a bottle when I can make them anywhere? Real ones, too, not...

[Anywhere except here, Jack remembers. And now he's sad.]

Maybe I'll try the bottle ones, anyway. But hey, at least it'll snow here eventually, right? How many seasons does this place have, anyway?

No idea. I have only been here +/- two months. It was cold when I got here, though.

...I did mention you should not fall in the river, right?

[part of why he's not sure how long he's been here is that he spent much of it sicker than a dog.]

You did, and I still don't plan on it. [Oh look, and that'd be a Seel worming his way over. Wonderful timing, Phil. Sho, meet Jack's very own furry lifeguard.] Even if I did, pretty sure this guy would get me out pretty quick.

Wasn't staying in long that was the problem. Cold + wet = pneumonia. Bell got me to Violet City.

[faintly grumpy - she won't let him pay her back.]

Riemannian Zeta-Function was very worried.

[Huh, Jack's going to have to remember that he can get sick now. That'll last all of two minutes.]

I know what cold does, okay? I make cold do half the things cold does.

...Is that another one of those math names?

Yes! The proper mathematical term is the Riemann Zeta-Function, but I think that Riemannian sounds much more feminine.

[Because he's nuts. Yes.]

She evolved recently, and does not steal as much now. She can teleport instead.

[His turn for a facial droop. He misses teleportation. Greatly.]

Hat still fits, though.

So what is she? I mean, a pokemon, obviously, but...

[Also, Sho, all your pokemon are going to be getting nicknames, very soon. You can't really expect other people to call them those names.]

She is a Liepard!

[He turns and beckons off-camera, and then a Liepard puts her forelegs in his lap. She is, indeed, wearing a hat. The same kind that the stereotypical New York cabbie is portrayed as wearing, although in solid black.]

She was a Purrloin before evolution.

[His Zorau is way ahead of you, man. RZF, Nor, Nand, Tie, Ele, and SD.]

[That is... strangely adorable. Even Jack has to concede that apparently putting a hat on a large, purple cat is a good idea.]

Is she living up to that name? [Can anyone?]

[It was less "putting a hat on her" and more "giving her a hat so that she'd stop trying to take his". Still, she does work the hat pretty well.]

Yes. She and I have acted like Casimir plates from the beginning. First repelled by each other, then attracted to each other.

[He ruffles her neck fur affectionately.]

She grew on me.

Yes. She is also very good at helping to keep the others on-task.
