justanexpression | Video 2: Being Human (Action for Cherrygrove City)

[Obviously, someone has been practicing. When the feed kicks on, it's a properly framed picture of one Jack Frost. He's set up camp in the woods fringing Cherrygrove City with a good view of the beach and a frolicking Seel in the background behind him. He also looks more cheerful and less confused than last time.

Oh, and the egg in his lap. That's new, too.]

So, everyone was awesome about answering my questions last time, now I've got more of them.

Cherrygrove is nice. Been here a couple days, now. [He gestures over his shoulder.] You can tell Phil likes it. Kind of got lost on the way here, yeah, yeah, I know it's a straight line, okay, and Phil is about as slow as slow can be, but now that I'm here, I've got this guy. [He pokes at the egg. It's blue and white and people in the know might recognize it as a Pachirisu egg. Jack is not in the know.] Or girl. How do you tell?

For that matter, what do I do with it? Am I supposed to keep it warm? Someone mentioned a deal for new people just showing up, and that's totally me, so I, uh... just kind of hit buttons until I saw something that sounded good, but now I'm thinking that wasn't the best idea?

[He takes a second to glance over his shoulder, probably to make sure his Seel hadn't been eaten by a shark in the last few minutes or anything. If nothing else, this place seems to be teaching him a really strange sense of responsibility. If only Bunny could see him now.

He resettles, placing the gear on the ground in front of him so it can pick up a full body shot, including the sneakers he wasn't wearing before.]

Okay, second question, and... I know how crazy this sounds, but at least some of you weren't human before getting here, right? Pretty sure I've met one already. [Again, unless Thor's parents had some ridiculous delusions of grandeur.] So the question is- how do you stand it? Not the being here, that's turning out pretty cool, but the rest of it. All the getting hungry, and tired, and walking everywhere, not to mention buying stuff. Am I gonna have to get a- [shudder] -job?

[Well, Jack's pretty used to eyes. He's had his a while. Still, he's happy to see a familiar face, no matter how much the person attached to that face seems to have a vendetta against a random part of the landscape. He grins brightly.]

Hey, Jack! Yeah, I did. Somehow. Had to break down and put these on, though. [Look, shoes. SHOES. Oh, the indignity.]

_{[Jack laughs. Poor adventurer! He remembers buckling and putting on a coat when his first snowfall rolled around. Colds were awful.]}

Never underestimate a good pair of boots! Maybe you'll come across a pokemon big enough for you to ride.

[Oh god, the first time it snows and Jack gets COLD... The poor boy won't be able to handle it. There might need to be an intervention.

His eyes go wide at that tidbit of information, though. He's only seen the smallish pokemon that populate this area, after all.] They come that big?

Absolutely!

_{[Jack, you're in for a treat. Luckily, Jack S. is outside while checking his gear and unclips a pokeball from his belt.]}

Dennis, come out!

_{[An enormous, winding, somewhat wall-eyed leviathan of a pokemon appears in a burst of red light. Dennis the Gyrados.]}

...Whoa.

[That... is AWESOME! It's amazing! Cooler than cool! Jack has never needed something so badly as he needs one of those right now. ~~And he'll be getting one as soon as he's back on the road, whether he wants the Magikarp or not.~~ He's not sure he'd have named it 'Dennis' but he's already pretty sure the other Jack is just strange like that.]

What is that?

_{[Jack beams. Dennis is his BB okay. He is so proud of that stupid wall-eyed fish.]}

This, friend, is a Gyrados, the evolved form of Magikarp. Several pokemon get larger as they evolve! I have a Murkrow who, I think, is purposefully not evolving so she can continue to sit on my shoul-DERRRR

_{[The enormous fishy head of Dennis shoves his trainer aside so that he can squint into the tiny noise-making thing his trainer seems to like so much. Be glad you can't smell his fishbreath. Jack shoves one of Dennis's long whiskers out of the way.]}

He's very friendly!

[Snicker. Jack waves a little when he finds himself being scrutinized by a fish. A really overgrown fish, but...]

Friendly, huh? I can tell.

He knows how to fetch and he's a great swimmer. A friend of mine has a flying-type big enough to ride on as well. You can imagine how much travel time that saves.

[Another glance back at his Seel, who's now basking on a large rock.]

...I've got a ways to go, huh?

Just a little ways. You've made it to Cherrygrove without breaking your nose, so you've got a step up on me.

[More laughing.]

Right! I remembered about the ledges!

Good. Let's keep it that way. Though I do wonder...how bird-types fly over, yet we can't climb.

_{[Jack, stop thinking.]}

Maybe the power or whatever it is only extends a certain distance. Wonder if you could find out how far it goes...

[No, Jack, stop encouraging other Jack's thinking.]

Perhaps...Perhaps it will remain a mystery same as the music that's always in the air.

_{[Somebody is going to break a leg.]}

[Well, now that he mentioned it...]

So there's really no escaping that, huh? Just... always music?

I'm afraid not. Luckily, it changes from place to place.

_{[There are times Jack can still hear cave music.]

[Those are dark times.]}

[Literally dark times? ~~badum-tish~~]

Yeah, I noticed. You can probably use it to figure out where you are if you get lost, anyway.

Though I've noticed the stores and pokemon centers tend to sound the same, so make sure you go outside if you suddenly wake up somewhere you don't remember falling asleep.

...That happens, too? What is WITH this place?

_{[Here, Jack just shrugs. There was too much strangeness to even try and explain.]}

[Okay, good point.]

Right, right. Not expecting an answer to that one.
