justanexpression | Video 2: Being Human (Action for Cherrygrove City)

[Obviously, someone has been practicing. When the feed kicks on, it's a properly framed picture of one Jack Frost. He's set up camp in the woods fringing Cherrygrove City with a good view of the beach and a frolicking Seel in the background behind him. He also looks more cheerful and less confused than last time.

Oh, and the egg in his lap. That's new, too.]

So, everyone was awesome about answering my questions last time, now I've got more of them.

Cherrygrove is nice. Been here a couple days, now. [He gestures over his shoulder.] You can tell Phil likes it. Kind of got lost on the way here, yeah, yeah, I know it's a straight line, okay, and Phil is about as slow as slow can be, but now that I'm here, I've got this guy. [He pokes at the egg. It's blue and white and people in the know might recognize it as a Pachirisu egg. Jack is not in the know.] Or girl. How do you tell?

For that matter, what do I do with it? Am I supposed to keep it warm? Someone mentioned a deal for new people just showing up, and that's totally me, so I, uh... just kind of hit buttons until I saw something that sounded good, but now I'm thinking that wasn't the best idea?

[He takes a second to glance over his shoulder, probably to make sure his Seel hadn't been eaten by a shark in the last few minutes or anything. If nothing else, this place seems to be teaching him a really strange sense of responsibility. If only Bunny could see him now.

He resettles, placing the gear on the ground in front of him so it can pick up a full body shot, including the sneakers he wasn't wearing before.]

Okay, second question, and... I know how crazy this sounds, but at least some of you weren't human before getting here, right? Pretty sure I've met one already. [Again, unless Thor's parents had some ridiculous delusions of grandeur.] So the question is- how do you stand it? Not the being here, that's turning out pretty cool, but the rest of it. All the getting hungry, and tired, and walking everywhere, not to mention buying stuff. Am I gonna have to get a- [shudder] -job?

[smiles] That's great to hear.

It doesn't really bother me, that I'm not 'real' in other places. I'm real enough in mine that it's good enough for me.

[Oh, Steve, that's about as far from anything this boy could understand as it's possible to be. Congratulations.]

Yeah, but don't you want them to believe in you?

[Jack, honey, not everyone is transparent, or a fairy from Neverland.]

[aww Jack honey, Steve doesn't understand where you're coming from either, but Steve does see this as him talking to a kid of sorts]

Well, yeah, everyone wants to be acknowledged or believed in on some level, it's odd to meet people who know me only as a fictional character, bothers me a tad, but I guess in the end I most want them to believe in what Captain America stands for, because as him, I'm a personification of an ideal. And so, even if he's a book or comic, Captain America still exists and is still that ideal that kids, well anyone, can look up to, and that means a lot to me.

[smiles, because it does, the fact that his message continues on to other worlds in someway is pretty amazing. Better than not being there at all]

[He is a kid... sort of. And Steve might have just accidentally picked up another fan. Not that he'll ever admit it, nope.]

...Maybe you shoulda been a Guardian. You sure sound like one.

[Steve never really thinks about having fans, so it wouldn't occure to him unless told anyway. Your secret is safely unnoticed]

Guardian? [pretty sure the definition of the word Jack is using is different than the one Steve is thinking of]

Yeah... [Okay, Jack, get it together.]

In my world, the Guardians help protect kids from... well, lots of things. They... We all take care of something to make sure kids get to be kids. Hope, wonder, good dreams. Fun. You know. Santa Claus and stuff.

[oh so Santa is real too? Well... Different worlds? Sure, maybe, it could make some sense]

That sounds real keen, I would have been honored to be a one. You guys must do some great work.

[And the Easter Bunny, too. He's not as awesome as advertised, though. ~~More of an Easter Kangaroo, really.~~]

We did just save the world from the Boogeyman.

[...Jack, honey, that makes you sound crazy, not brave.]

[Yeah, that one is stretching Steve's ability to suspend disbelief, so he probably looks a bit unsure]

Like... the monster under the bed my mom told me about?

[he wants to believe you Jack, he does, he's already believing you're Jack Frost and you know Santa, but give him some wiggle room to work up to this one]

Well... yes. Sort of.

[At least now he's REALIZING it sounds crazy.]

Okay, so children's beliefs are kind of a big deal, right? That's basically how Santa and the Tooth Fairy and all them exist, because kids believe they do. And the same is kinda true of Pitch. Uh, that's the Boogeyman. Except he feeds on fears instead of good things like fun.

So... yeah. He's real, just like the rest of us.

[oh good, explanations, Steve works well with those.... Though the Toothfairy? Never mind, he's going to stop questioning this so much. He does consider it for a moment, then nods]

Okay, I can get behind that... [mythology] logic.

[~~Steve'll probably meet her soon, solve that problem.~~ It is a lot to question, especially for an adult who probably stopped believing ages ago if he ever did at all. The fact that he's trying makes him pretty cool in Jack's book. He chuckles.]

We're a bunch of myths and fairy tales. It is a little farfetched, huh?

[Steve is trying, but it's a bit much. Then again, he's currently in a video game with people who know him only as a comic book character, and he's traveling around with a Norse god, who he just fended off an alien invasion with after waking up from being frozen in ice for 70 years... So, the Toothfairy is real, he can work with that]

At first, yeah, but I didn't believe Thor and Loki were real until I met them. Even fought along side Thor, so I know he's the real deal. [though not a god in his book still] So other myths are real, it shouldn't surprise me.

[He should mention that being frozen in ice thing. He and Jack could bond.]

You're already ahead of most adults, then. It's a good start.

[grin] At this rate, you're gonna end up getting presents for Christmas, too.

[ome day I'm sure it will, but at the moment Steve doesn't have much reason to offer up such things]

I've always liked to think I was on the nice list. [grins]

Probably. Most people are. North plays tough, but he's a giant marshmallow.

North, huh? Hadn't even crossed my mind that he'd have a different name.

[grin] You never thought he was real, either.

Seems I don't know him at all then. [chuckles]
